A curious gaze and a child-like fascination at every turn

Emerging from the plentiful embrace of Konkan, an abiding affection for nature had been a constant companion of Devdatta since childhood.

After experiencing the hallowed halls of tradition and artistry in Kolhapur the journey of creative exploration continued into Pune, where he became a graduate of Art at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya.

While completing his 5 year degree, Devdatta was introduced to the sprawling reach of advertisement photography. While working on paintings as part of college assignments that typically took days to finish, he also developed an eye for photography and worked with several advertisement agencies.

Having spent a quarter-century (and still counting) behind the lens, his journey as a photographer has been adorned with a spectrum of recognition and a collection of prestigious awards:

    1. Moraya Award

    2. Jagdish Khebudkar Memorial Award

    3. Times of India Award

    4. Kirloskar Vasundhara Award

    5. Nikon Award

    6. Canon's Award

    7. Maharashtra Government Award

    8. Government of India Award

To date, he has presented () solo photography exhibitions, each met with resounding applause from both appreciative audiences and discerning critics.

He continues his showcase now through the means of photography slideshows which have also attracted aesthetes from all around Pune and Maharashtra. He has interviewed several important figures in the art and public service sector, and regularly writes for various media.

On completing his education he joined the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation as an “Artist cum Photographer”- a post that was specifically conceived for him. During his time as a photojournalist for about 20 years he worked in print and electronic media. He has since resigned from the job in 2018.

In 2014, he pioneered the first photography training center “Devdatta Photography School” which is to-date one of the most sought after photography institutes in Pune. Young photographers from all across Maharashtra and beyond join the institute every year. The institute is ISO certified since 2023.

Playing with color, lines, shapes and light he has worked on a wide range of photography ranging from fine art nude to landscape, portraiture to documentary filmmaking. He loves to travel and is always on the hunt to find his next project.
